Royal Caribbean invited 100 agents to a day of activities and quizzes on the mammoth ship. The TTG team joined in the fun
On October 15, Royal Caribbean’s Oasis of the Seas ship sailed into Southampton for the first time. The line saw the ship’s maiden call into the UK as an ideal opportunity to introduce agents to the mammoth liner, which launched in 2009.
Royal Caribbean welcomed teams from Thomas Cook, cruise.co.uk, Barrhead Travel, Iglu.com and Trailfinders onboard. After lunch in the American Icon Grill, before being split into eight teams to undertake “Mission Oasis” - a series of challenges and quizzes in the ship’s seven zones.
In lieu of a regular ship tour, agents got stuck into all the activities onboard one of the world’s biggest ships...
After all the quiz answers, game scores and selfie evidence were collected and judged by the Royal Caribbean team, Barrhead Travel were deemed the day’s winners.
The team won a place onboard Anthem of the Seas’ inaugural sailing in April 2015, as well as dinner at Chops Grille. A game of Heads and Tails was also played at the prize-giving in the Jazz on 4 lounge, with Katie Walsh from cruise.co.uk winning a free cruise on Allure of the Seas.

“Seeing something first hand helps you sell it more easily. The Rising Tide bar was amazing and I saw people sitting out on their cabin balconies overlooking the Boardwalk - they looked far more private than I’d imagined; that’s the sort of thing you just don’t get from a brochure.”
Robin Jones, ski and cruise sales consultant at Iglu.com, London
“Walking along the promenade you get an idea of the magnitude of the ship - you might think that with more than 5,400 people onboard it would really feel congested, but it doesn’t. The way they’ve designed the ships you don’t actually feel there are that many people onboard.”
Sarah Lemasurier, consultant at Barrhead Travel, Livingston
“The promenade is bigger than my house - actually it’s bigger than my street. Standing in the glass elevators you can see the whole of the boardwalk. Some cabin balconies look onto the Aqua Theatre, so you don’t have to leave your room to see a show.”
"We’ve seen what life at sea is really like on the ship - it’s definitely tempted me to want to cruise on it"
Lynne Clay, consultant at Thomas Cook, Maidstone
“On a ship tour you usually just see the cabins and have lunch, but you don’t really experience the ship. On today’s tour we’ve seen what life at sea is really like on the ship - it’s definitely tempted me to want to cruise on it! It was also interesting to see the type of clientele it attracts.”
Sean Atton, consultant at Trailfinders, Kensington
“It was my first time onboard Oasis of the Seas and I was impressed. Walking through Central Park, along the Boardwalk and Royal Promenade, it was clear to see that there really is something for everyone onboard. Royal Caribbean has hit the nail on the head when it comes to ship visits with this new format.”
Elaine Monteith, consultant at Barrhead Travel, East Kilbride, part of the winning team
“We came onboard determined to win, and it means the world that we’re the champions! Doing the challenges was a fantastic way to absorb the atmosphere of the ship - I can now go home and paint a picture for my customers. We can’t wait to enjoy the inaugural sailing on Anthem together.”
